ABSTRACT

Inclusive digital financial services should welcome older populations and make them beneficiaries of the digital and financial revolution. To understand older adults' experience of using digital financial tools, we conducted an online survey of 268 older internet users aged 60 or above from urban areas of 14 Chinese provinces after China's nationwide COVID-19 lockdown in 2021. Our results revealed that older internet surfers were active in digital financial activities and engaged most with activities that were highly compatible with their lifestyles. Active users significantly differed from inactive users in sociodemographics, confirming that a digital divide related to social stratification exists among older internet users. Digital finance active users were also distinguished from inactive users' attitudes and perceptions toward digital finance. Logistic regression results indicated that perceived usefulness, access to proper devices for digital finance, risk perceptions, and perceived exclusion if not using technology were associated with their adoption of these advanced tools. Older adults reported the perceived inconvenience of in-person financial services during the lockdown. They also expressed a willingness to participate in relevant training if provided. The findings of this study could help aging-related practitioners to understand older adults' engagement in digital finance and guide policy and project design in the area of financial inclusion of the aging population.

ABSTRACT

The economy of the Republic of Croatia is dependent on the tourism industry. The current crisis in the global tourism market, caused by the Covid 19 pandemic, has highlighted the impor-tance of the domestic market for the survival of tourism and the Croatian economy as a whole. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to determine the consumer habits of domestic tourists, fo-cusing on the characteristics of travel, motivation and behavioural intentions and co-creation of the tourist experience to better understand the behaviour of tourists. The paper is based on an empirical study conducted on a sample of domestic tourists. The research results show that the majority of tourists organize their own travel and that the main source of information for them is the Internet. The most common reasons for traveling are rest and relaxation, fun and new experiences. Using cluster analysis, three segments of domestic tourists were identified (Youth, Couples and Families with Children), and differences were found among them in terms of travel characteristics, travel motivation, behavioural intentions, degree of tourists' involvement in travel preparation, and degree of co-creation of the tourist experience. The paper contributes to the understanding of motives and behavioural patterns of domestic tourists. The research findings can be used by marketing manag-ers in travel agencies and tourist destinations to better address the needs of domestic tourists.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: This study aims to examine the physical activity and eating habits of elite athletes to identify changes in their weight and participation levels in competitions pre- and post-COVID-19, and to establish a database of the abovementioned factors for the post-COVID-19 period. METHODS: This study surveyed 913 elite adult athletes from 22 sports. They were divided into two groups: weight loss athletes' group (WLG) and non-weight loss athletes' group (NWLG). In addition to demographic factors, the questionnaire included questions about physical activity, sleep, and eating habits pre- and post-COVID-19 pandemic. The survey included 46 questions requiring short subjective answers. Statistical significance was set at p<0.05. RESULTS: In the post-COVID-19 pandemic period, physical activity and sitting decreased in athletes of both groups. The difference in the number of meals consumed by both groups varied, and the number of tournaments the athletes participated in decreased for all sports. The success or failure of weight loss is essential for maintaining athletes' performance and health. CONCLUSION: Coaches play an important role in investigating and managing the weight loss regimen of athletes during crisis situations like a pandemic. Additionally, athletes must find the best way to maintain their competencies to the standards set before COVID-19. Adhering to such a regimen will have the greatest impact on their tournament participation in the post-COVID-19 pandemic period.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: This prospective cohort study investigated the impact of online and hybrid teaching of university-required physical education on students' physical literacy-related correlates. To avoid the widespread pandemic, the university decided to offer courses online through video conferencing or via a hybrid mode. When compared with face-to-face instruction, these formats may intensely affect students' physical literacy journey during early adulthood. Methods: A group of 1,738 students (42% males and 58% females) aged 18.52 (+/- 1.29) responded to a three-phase online survey in various courses. Results: The structural equation modeling determined that motivation and physical activity levels were negatively related to physical competence and knowledge and understanding. Further repeated-measure analyses recognized the interaction effect of amotivation. Results indicated that participants in the online teaching mode may experience a learning predicament over those in the hybrid one. Conclusion: Practically, the physical literacy teaching strategies in nurturing motivation and physical competence should be reinforced.

ABSTRACT

Nowadays, psychological components have attained a very notable importance in the acquisition of healthy behaviours. Therefore, this study analyses the differences between psychological variables that are related to sports practice in university students during the confinement caused by COVID-19. The study had a sample of 1239 participants (765 males and 474 females), aged 16-45 years (M = 21.44, SD = 3.94). A questionnaire, which included the Behavioural Regulation in Sport Questionnaire (BRSQ), the Basic Psychological Needs in Exercise Scale;the Physical Activity Self-Efficacy Scale;and the Degree of Sport Commitment Scale, was used. The most relevant results show significant differences (p<0.01) in favour of the male gender in almost all psychological variables except demotivation. Likewise, with regard to controlled motivation and demotivation, significant differences were found between small and large localities, with higher values in the former (p<0.05 and <0.01). The results are discussed in order to determine the differences in terms of which psychological components would allow for interventions that might be more effective in achieving regular sport practice, commitment, and adherence through the use of strategies aimed at fostering autonomous motivation in university students and counteracting the effects of controlled motivation and demotivation.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Introduction: Students have realized the importance of physical education after the epidemic of COVID-19 and have increased the demand of seeking a healthy lifestyle even during home isolation. In contrast, the current physical education system in colleges and universities does not meet the real demands of its students, demonstrating a barrier between teaching and learning. Objective: Study students' lifestyle and sports habits during the epidemic of COVID-19. Methods: An online questionnaire was conducted to investigate and analyze students' home exercise environment, lifestyle and exercise practices, and exercise psychology during COVID-19. A total of 1274 valid questionnaires were obtained. The data from the questionnaires were entered, sorted, and analyzed, and relevant figures were drawn and discussed. Results: It was noted that students mostly preferred outdoor exercise equipment and hands-free activities outside the home. This picture reversed during the COVID-19 epidemic when students preferred indoor equipment. In terms of exercise programs, an effective exercise program is needed to allow people to exercise effectively during home isolation. Conclusion: Physical education teachers in colleges and universities should select the right means of physical fitness to combine sports and sports life that can be practiced at home, according to the actual situation of students and their psychological demands. Students should be given a better sports experience during the quarantine process, stimulating them to stay positive and with good physical quality, aiming at strengthening immunity and reducing the risk of infection by COVID-19. Level of evidence II; Therapeutic studies - investigation of treatment outcomes.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to compare the health literacy and the lifestyle of Covid-19 patients admitted to Shahid Firoozabadi Hospital in Tehran's 20th district and non-covid-19 patients. For this purpose, 60 Covid 19 patients admitted to the hospital were compared to 60 patients with diseases other than Covid-19. To achieve this goal, two questionnaires were submitted to the participants;Health literacy of Iran's Urban Population and Miller-Smith Lifestyle Assessment Quesnaire. Data analysis was performed using central tendency analysis (mean), and multivariate analysis of variance. The results showed a significant difference between these two groups on the two variables of health literacy and lifestyle. The results showed that the Covid-19 patients had a higher level of health literacy than non-covid-19 patients. It is possible that covid-19 patients attempt to gather health-related information in order to accelerate the recovery process, to prevent other family members from getting infected, to reduce the side effects of medications and the disease, have led to an increase in health literacy in this group compared to non-covid-19 patients. Also, the unfavorable conditions and the long-term side-effects of Covid-19 have caused them to experience an unpleasant lifestyle compared to non-covid-19 patients. ABSTRACT

From 1975-2016, the number of people with obesity in Europe increased fivefold and the overall trend is still increasing. Obesity is the result of an imbalance between energy expenditure and caloric intake. Although the importance of genetic determinants for the variance of body mass index (BMI) is about 60-70%, overeating, lack of exercise, and psychosocial stress are influenceable risk factors. For example, during the Corona pandemic, nearly 40% of Germans gained an average of 5.6kg, and people with obesity gained as much as 7.2kg. To reduce obesity-associated comorbidities, a permanent reduction in body weight of (at least) 5-10% is recommended. A significant reduction of cardiovascular endpoints can be achieved with a weight reduction of more than 10% of the initial weight. Therapeutic measures in the context of an escalating stepwise approach should include strategies for targeted weight reduction and long-term weight maintenance.Copyright © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Medizin Verlag GmbH, ein Teil von Springer Nature.

ABSTRACT

The last period of Covid-19 has markedly changed the life of preschool aged children with impact on health and nutrition in the period of growth and development. The aim of the research was to evaluate the selected health and nutritional parameters influenced by pandemic Covid-19. The set concluded children (n=130) from 4 up to 6 years old (55.4% girls, 44.6% boys). The majority of set was presented by children 5-5.99 years (64.6%). Anthropometric data were evaluated by percentile method and growth charts. The nutrition status was estimated by on-line questionnaire. Software Statistica 10.0 (StatSoft Inc., USA) was used. During the 3rd wave of pandemic (from September 2021 up to now) it has been noticed the rise of weight by 0.9 ± 0.1 kg. In term of weight the set was presented by 58.5% of children belonged to percentile range of low and medium values (group A) and 41.5% of children (group B) had high values (19.2% high, 6.9% very high, 15.4% extremely high weight). More children in group B (7.4 vs. 34.2%) had low body height values (p < 0.01) and high values prevailed in group A. The medium values of body mass index was typical for the group B (p < 0.001) (22.2 vs. 60.5%;proportional children) and high values in group A (64.8 vs. 7.9%;obese or overweighted children). The children of group A consumed during pandemic vs. before pandemic lower amount of fresh/frozen fruit and vegetables. In the group A more than 2 portion of vegetable daily consumed less children during pandemic than before pandemic (27.8% vs. 31.5%) on contrary with fruit (50% vs. 42.6%). Physical activity more than 2 hours daily/outdoor sport activities had less children in group A during pandemic vs. before pandemic. Significant inadequate sleep (less than 8 hours) had the children belonged to group A before and during pandemic (11.1% and 16.7%) with predominance of children with irregular sleeping regime. During the Covid-19 pandemic, selected eating habits and lifestyle aspects of preschool children were affected. Further investigation of the long-term effects on children's weight and health is needed. © 2023, Consulting and Training Center - KEY. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has motivated social workers to reckon with and transform traditions in service delivery. The development, application, and evaluation of technology-enhanced practices have become more vital than ever. Garden on the Balcony (GOB) was an innovative internet-based social work service designed to respond rapidly to the COVID-19 outbreak in Beijing. This paper introduces the underlying perspectives and design of GOB and reports participants' reflections on the program to understand its mechanisms and implications. Interview data from GOB participants were collected 4 months after the program ended. Thematic analysis generated three major themes, suggesting that GOB had (a) promoted individual resilience and family cohesion;(b) built online and offline community bonds;and (c) cultivated a green lifestyle and spiritual reflection on life. This study demonstrates a practical example of the effective use of technology-enhanced practice.
